We have been responsible for delivering additional computerisation to existing diagnostics facilities on a number of ralway systems. This was accomplished by writing new graphical and text-based applications to interpret diagnostics data (which the manufacturers supplied for the use of their own staff in determining problems). This enabled the Clients to maintain and/or commission their systems, armed with far better information than was available previously, since suppliers are notably coy about the technical details of diagnostics data files.

These diagnostics tools typically work with huge stored files (although some are real-time) of hexadecimal data which requires "translation" into a human-readable format, with temporary storage of pertinent variables on the way. The latest of these is a 32-bit Windows application, registered to allow the user to invoke it using right-clicks on appropriate files or folders, of a standard normally seen only on high-end office suite-style applications.

This work has also given us an insight into the inner workings of much of the automatic equipment in use on British and French railways today. This experience, coupled with a flair for revolutionary testing techniques, has led to many successes in resolving long-term reliability problems.
